The Yasnaya Polyana art gallery is located in the historic center of the Zarechie district of Tula (Zarechie meaning a part of town across the river), at the intersection of the streets Oktyabrskaya and Lunacharskogo (formerly, Millionnaya and Georgievskaya streets), in the 18th-century building that has preserved the classical appearance characteristic of Russian town houses.
The gallery opened in 1997 as a center of interaction between artists in order to support and encourage their creative activities in painting, graphic art, sculpture, photography, installation, applied art, fashion, video, or new technologies – i.e. any kind of activity which, if we quote Tolstoy, may be referenced in answer to the question “What is art?”
