From April 6 to 13, 2026, the Tolstoy House at Yasnaya Polyana will be closed for preparations for the summer season. During this time, guided tours will follow the route “Estate Grounds – Kuzminsky House.”
Visitors exploring the grounds independently can use an audio guide featuring commentary by Vladimir Tolstoy, a descendant of Leo Tolstoy, who tells about key locations within Yasnaya Polyana. The new exhibition “Leskov – A Writer of the Future” in the Volkonsky House will also remain open to visitors.
Throughout the week, museum staff will carry out essential maintenance work: wet cleaning of interiors, dust removal from surfaces and objects, window washing, removal of secondary window frames for the summer, and preventive treatment against wood-boring insects. In addition, specialists will be invited to inspect the collections and provide recommendations for their preservation and restoration.
“Thanks to this work, the Yasnaya Polyana museum-estate continues to welcome visitors more than a century after its opening. Anyone can step inside the house, where every detail preserves the memory of the creator of War and Peace and Anna Karenina,” says Nadezhda Pereverzeva, curator of the Tolstoy House.
Preparations for the winter and summer seasons are an essential part of the museum’s work. The memorial house is closed to visitors twice a year, in spring and autumn, for preventive conservation. The museum’s mission is to preserve it in the exact condition it had during Tolstoy’s lifetime.
