The second season of the literary club The Lion’s Share of the 20th Century is underway at the “L. N. T.” Cultural and Exhibition Center. On November 8, 2025, the club will hold its third meeting in the literary café Stiva. As before, the moderator and host will be Tatiana Bogatyreva, literary scholar, Candidate of Philological Sciences, and Associate Professor at the Department of Journalism of Tula State University.

The main feature of the new season will be an even bolder and at times provocative choice of Tolstoy’s “opponents.” The club’s format remains unchanged—a lively dialogue among participants, preceded by an introduction from the moderator. It is precisely the specialist’s literary commentary that distinguishes The Lion’s Share from other literary clubs.

With the moderator’s guidance, participants will once again discover formal and thematic similarities in the works of writers whose lives and creative paths are separated by decades. “The focus of our literary club remains the dialogue between Russian classics, marked by their humanistic spirit, and Western European literature of the 20th century, which can rightly be called the century of experimentation,” says Tatiana Bogatyreva.

The third meeting, to be held on November 8, will be dedicated to a discussion of Leo Tolstoy’s short story The Jump and J. D. Salinger’s story In the Boat.

Schedule of upcoming meetings:

  • November 22: Leo Tolstoy The Astronomers – Jorge Luis Borges The Lottery in Babylon;
  • December 6: Leo Tolstoy The Candle – Jean-Paul Sartre The Wall.
