From September 6 to 9, 2025, the XIV International Academic Conference “Leo Tolstoy and World Literature” will take place at the Leo Tolstoy Museum-Estate Yasnaya Polyana. More than thirty scholars from Russia, Belarus, Iran, and China will participate. At the opening of the conference on September 6, speeches will be given by Ekaterina Tolstaya, director of the Yasnaya Polyana Museum-Estate, and Galina Alexeeva, the museum’s academic supervisor.

The conference sessions will discuss issues of Tolstoy’s work in the context of Russian and world literature, philosophy, and religion. Participants will address the textual peculiarities of the early manuscripts of the novel Anna Karenina, the story Boyhood in the context of the dynamics of the Russian literary language, the creative dialogue between Leo Tolstoy and Fyodor Dostoevsky, and the influence of Tolstoy’s works and ideas on his famous contemporaries.

The International Academic Conference “Leo Tolstoy and World Literature” is held in Yasnaya Polyana once every two years. The conference is based on Tolstoy’s personal library, which contains books in 39 foreign languages with notes made by the writer himself. A collection of articles is published following the conference.
