This exhibition will reveal Tolstoy’s views on family life. It will focus on his first novel, Family Happiness, on the novellas Youth and The Landowner’s Morning, and on the novel Anna Karenina. The exhibition will tell the visitors about the biographical foundation of Family Happiness, some of the romantic episodes in the writer’s life, his proposal to Sonya Behrs and their wedding.
As part of its main exhibition, the Tula branch of the Yasnaya Polyana Museum will show original objects from the Tolstoy House. For example, visitors to the exhibition will be able to see some personal items of the Tolstoys from the closed collection. Among the exhibits will be Sophia’s bonnet and scent bottle, Leo Tolstoy’s tie, a set of cards for a card game, and also a candle-holder that belonged to the writer’s relative—a family relic mentioned in Family Happiness.
The presentation of the exhibition will include a guided tour and a film screening. After the tour, the TV play Family Happiness by Pyotr Fomenko will be shown at L. N. T. Center. In addition, head of the literary department of the Tula Academic Drama Theater, Olga Kuzmicheva, will speak at the opening. She will tell more about the play Family Happiness whose premiere took place in 1997 at Nikolskoye-Vyazemskoye, the ancestral estate of the Tolstoy family.
