Exhibition «The Unground. Experience of Spiritual Resistance in the Urals in the XXth Century»
neperemolApril 8 - 29, 2012, Yasnaya Polyana Art Gallery
(Tula, Oktyabrskaya 12)

Opening hoursWednesday - Sunday, 11.00 am - 6.00 pm

Special tour of the exhibition are offered on Saturdays and Sundays at 1.00 p.m. (in Russian only)

Before this exhibition was brought to Tula, it was shown in the Moscow region, in Tver, St. Petersburg,Tomsk,Severodvinsk,Chelyabinsk,Pskov,Arkhangelsk, Ekaterinburg and some other cities.

It is devoted to the people, who suffered from the “hammer and sickle” of repressions in the Soviet time, but survived, held out against the persecutions and didn’t lose their faith. By the example of the Urals Region  (before 1917 it included Perm, Chelyabinsk, Vyatka, Ekaterinburg Ufa, and Kurgan eparchies) the exhibition shows what happened all over the country at that time:  destruction of the church and repressions of religious people, and makes us remember the fates of people whose lives were run over by the “read wheel”.

Organizers of the exhibition:

Preobrazhensky Community of Smaller Orthodox Congregations, Cultural Foundation “Preobrazheniye”, Orthodox Theological Seminary of Ekaterinburg and  Local History Museum of Sverdlovsk Region, Historical and Civil Rights Society “Memorial” (Tula branch), and the Yasnaya Polyana Museum.
