Exhibition of Works by Oleg Lang
_._June 1, 2014 at 12:00
"Yasnaya Polyana" Gallery

As part of the “Colors of Childhood” festival, an original exhibition of works from the collection of the “Shar-Papier Museum” will open at the Yasnaya Polyana Gallery, where angel figures painted by well-known people and paintings by the artist Oleg Lang will be shown.

Oleg Lang (1950-2013) was a graduate of the Surikov Art Institute (Moscow) who managed to create his own unique style. He was recognized as a talented artist as early as in the 1980s. Dozens of his paintings are part of permanent exhibitions of many museums in Russia, among them the Tretyakov Gallery and the Russian Museum, and they were also shown at personal exhibitions several times.

“Oleg Lang is an amazing Moscow artist who does painting outside the contemporary art mainstream… An altruistic artist, an extravagant introvert and an impulsive philosopher, he doesn’t try to flit about on TV or participate in many exhibitions and auctions, and is not engaged in promotion and positioning. He is thoughtful and scrupulous. Nevertheless, he belongs to the select circle of masters of contemporary art” (Vladimir Nazansky, Russian art critic and member of the Russian Artists Union).

“Lang speaks about the most intimate, touchy and dramatic things, sarcasm and horror often animate his canvasses. But he is first and foremost an artiste, a “playing man.” Pathos and didacticism are held at bay in Lang’s big projects. Characters of his series, this amazing fauna that emerged as a mix of koloboks and beetles, are taken from the repertoire of children aged from three to five. The high professionalism of the master is expressed, first of all, in his skill to avoid everything he was taught in schools and institutes. It is his principle position: to draw naively, to paint masterfully, and to speak only about what is most important” (Alexander Yakimovich, Doctor of Art History, full member of the Russian Academy of Arts).
