Exhibition “Valery Bocharov. Paintings”

bocharov2January 17 - February 9, 2014
"Yasnaya Polyana" Gallery

Opening of the exhibition takes place on January 17 at 15:00

The 75th anniversary of the birthday of one of the most well known artists in Tula will be marked by an exhibition at the “Yasnaya Polyana” Gallery. The exhibition shows works by the artist who fell in love with painting in his early childhood and whose inspiration, according to his own words, has always been “nature and the life which surrounds us.”

Valery Bocharov’s first exhibition took place in 1955 when the artist was 16 years old. Later he studied at the Moscow Art School named in memory of the 1905 revolution, where his teachers were A.I. Salakhov, A.M. Dubinchik, and L.A. Shitov, and also at the Moscow State Polygraphic Institute. He graduated from the faculty of printed product design and worked as a designer for the Tula newspaper Molodoi Kommunar, and also designed publications of books by Russian and Soviet authors for the Priokskoye publishing company.

Many students of art in Tula began their studies under Valery Bocharov’s guidance. In 1974, he began teaching at the Tula Children’s Art School named after V.D. Polenov, and in 1991 took an active part in the foundation of the painting department at the Tula Musical College named after A.S. Dargomyzhsky (from 2001, an art college), which he headed until 2004.

Valery Bocharov is a member of the Russian Artists Union, and a participant in various Russian and International exhibitions where not only his water-colors and drawings were shown, but also books he designed. One of the artist’s latest exhibitions, shown at the “Yasnaya Polyana” Gallery in 2009, demonstrated his talent as a landscape painter. Bocharov’s works reveal for the spectators picturesque places in Central Russia (including those in Tula and Yasnaya Polyana), in the Russian North, and the Crimea.
