The Known Unknown Boris Kustodiev exhibition reveals little-known facets of the artist Boris Kustodiev‘s (1878-1927) creative heritage. Thanks to the materials provided by the P.M. Dogadin Picture Gallery in Astrakhan and its branch – the B.M. Kustodiev House-Museum--visitors to the exhibition have a unique opportunity to plunge into the master‘s creative and family world, and to feel how and in what kind of atmosphere his great works were created. 

Exhibition of Yasnaya Polyana Ceramics

An exhibition of Yasnaya Polyana ceramics will open in the foyer of the Yasnaya Polyana Cultural Center. It will feature clay dishes of the types that were used in Russia in the 18th-19th centuries. There will be 16 items on display.

These objects were all made by the potter of the Applied Handicrafts Department Elena Barabanova and designed in the style of the Yasnaya Polyana ceramics.

“Fire Marks“ Exibition in Krapivna

On October 22, 2016 at 13:00 the Fire Marks exhibition will open at the Krapivna Local History Museum. The exhibition tells about the history of insurance in Tula Region, first of all in the Krapivna District.

What companies worked here in the 19th century and how; what are insurance, an insurance mark, and an insurance policy, and which of the Krapivna residents worked as insurance agents?  Visitors to the exhibition will have access to hundreds of documents and objects from the collections of the Krapivna Museum and of the collectors Dmitry Suetin and Dmitry Korneev. During the opening of the exhibition, there will be a presentation of the brochure Insurance in Krapivna by Vladimir Borzykh, a researcher of the history of Russian insurance.

You are invited to a photo exhibition by Igor Shcherbakov, a photographer from Tula. It will show photographs of medicinal herbs of Tula Region. The opening ceremony will start at 15:00.

This exhibition is a continuation of the Krapivna Museum‘s project The Kingdom of Herbs, which gives our visitors a chance to learn more about medicinal herbs, choose herbs for their own herbal tea or a fragrant sachet, and taste herbal teas. The author of this exhibition will also offer his guests a cup of healthy tea from various herbs growing in Krapivna.

Exhibition of Works by the Artist Sergey Sachkov in Krapivna

September 7 - October 11, 2016

On September 7 at 16:00 the Children‘s World of Sergey Sachkov exhibition will open at the Krapivna Local History Museum in memory of the artist.

The exhibition will show his illustrations of various editions, including both classic works ofchildren‘s literature and little-known works. Visitors to the exhibition will see the artist‘s illustrations of works by Korney Chukovsky, of Russian folk tales, and of books for children by American authors, and also calendars designed by Sergey Sachkov, which made his work well-recognized by both children and adults.

Sergey Sachkov, known to many people for his landscapes of Krapivna, but primarily for his illustrations of children‘s books, passed away in July.

Illustrations and books were provided for the exhibition by the artist‘s family and the Rodnichok Publisher.

Exhibition of Svetlana Kedrina: “Together Are the Earth and Sky, and I“

This exhibition of items done in the applique technique opens on August 31, 2016 at 16:00. The title of the exhibition repeats the title of one of Svetlana Kedrina’s own poems.

“As long as I can remember myself, I have always longed to do creative work,“ she says. “I used to draw patterns, make dolls from various objects of everyday life, carve on wood, and finally, having reached a mature age, I got into making patchwork panels. I have been preoccupied with it for over thirty years.”

"Art Made in Silence“ Exhibition


On August 26, 2016 at 17:30, the Art Made in Silence exhibition will open at the Yasnaya Polyana Cultural Center (Yasnaya Polyana Village, 142A). The authors of the more than twenty works on display are deaf artists from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Italy, and France.

After the opening ceremony, the exhibition will be open for visitors on August 27 from 9:00 to 19:00, and on August 28 from 9:00 to 17:00. Admission is free.

„Holy Places of Orthodoxy.“ Exhibition of Works by Dmitry Beliukin

The exhibition opens on June 23 at 16:00.

The series Holy Places of Orthodoxy.  Impressions of an Orthodox Pilgrim, created by the Russian National Artist and current member of the Russian Academy of Arts Dmitry Beliukin, consists of about 70 works. The gallery will show landscapes from Russia, Athos, and the Holy Land: Jerusalem and Tiberias, the interiors of Greek monastery churches: Panorama of Athos from the Peak of the Holy Mountain, The Road to the Church, Athos. At the Dock of the Monastery of Vatopedi, The Church of Panageia at Dawn, and other works. Their maker had the rare good fortune to spend time at these truly wonderful places not only as an Orthodox pilgrim, but as an artist with his own special mission.

Exhibition: The Brothers Grimm. Life and Works

The exhibition marks the 75th anniversary of her assuming the office of director of the joint Tolstoy Museums.

February 26 at 16:00, the exhibition Modern Icons by Alexander Chashkin will open at the Yasnaya Polyana Gallery. The exhibition is scheduled for the artist‘s 70s birthday and will show the collection of his best works done during the last twenty years.

Old traditions and modernity are mixed in Alexander Chashkin’s works; he creates images that can  easily be understood by our contemporaries. Each of these holy images – the Savior or Virgin Mary, Saint Sergius of Radonezh or Saint Antipas – carries devotional power that has always been perceived as a spiritual guard and a heavenly mantel in Russia.  

Exhibition “The Orenburg Shawl in Works by Russian Authors” at the Yasnaya Polyana Gallery

On January 15 at 16:30, an exhibition about the Orenburg shawl will open at the Yasnaya Polyana Gallery. Visitors to the exhibition will see objects from the collection of the Orenburg Regional Fine Arts Museum, new designer collections, and everyday life objects of the 19th and 20th centuries.

The exhibition will show handmade and machine-made Orenburg shawls, modern works inspired by this traditional craft, and photos of film characters wearing Orenburg shawls. In addition, you will be surprised to see a huge quantity of quotations from works by Russian writers mentioning the Orenburg shawl.
