Exhibition: War and Peace in Alexander Melikhov‘s Illustrations

Yasnaya Polyana Gallery 

The exhibition will open on February 21, 2017 at 16:00. It will feature a series of watercolors done by the artist specially for the edition of War and Peace published by the Khudozhestvennaya Literatura publisher to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812. The artist worked on the illustrations for seven years. The watercolors will be shown together with quotations from the novel. 

Reflection: Exhibition of Works by Tula Artists

On January 14 at 16:00, the Reflection exhibition will open at the Yasnaya Polyana Gallery. It will feature works by members of the Circle International Public Artists‘ Organization living and working in Tula: Natalia Teplinskaya, Anna Kalinina, Dima Gura, and Elena Sviridova. These works include still lifes, cityscapes, and landscapes--all in all over 60 paintings. Some of them will let us see Tula streets and Tolstoy-related places in Tula as seen by their authors. 

Exhibition of Children‘s Drawings: Tolstoy to Children, Children to Tolstoy

You are welcome to an exhibition of children‘s drawings, Tolstoy to Children, Children to Tolstoy, will open at the Yasnaya Polyana Gallery (Tula, Oktyabrskaya, 12). The contest was organized as part of the Tolstoy Lesson project carried out by the Yasnaya Polyana Agreement, a Tula regional movement for support of social development.

More than 80 children and teenagers from 4 to 17 years old, from Tula and Shchekino and also from the Shchekino, Dubna and Kireevsk districts of Tula Region took part in the competition. Their drawings show Yasnaya Polyana, stories and characters from Tolstoy‘s works, and, of course, the writer himself. The jury decided that all the participants‘ works should be displayed at the exhibition. 

Exhibition in Krapivna: White Lace (Winter Dreams)

What do we usually asociate with white lace? For some people, it is items made by craftswomen, various collars and doilies, and the sound of lace bobbins. For others, it’s trees in hoarfrost, ice patterns on the window panes, and snowflakes. These both components will be present at the exhibition White Lace (Winter Dreams): the lace not made by human hands, but created by winter nature and captured by photographers; and the lace skillfully made by the hands of Tula craftswomen.

The Known Unknown Boris Kustodiev exhibition reveals little-known facets of the artist Boris Kustodiev‘s (1878-1927) creative heritage. Thanks to the materials provided by the P.M. Dogadin Picture Gallery in Astrakhan and its branch – the B.M. Kustodiev House-Museum--visitors to the exhibition have a unique opportunity to plunge into the master‘s creative and family world, and to feel how and in what kind of atmosphere his great works were created. 

Exhibition of Yasnaya Polyana Ceramics

Yasnaya Polyana Cultural Center

An exhibition of Yasnaya Polyana ceramics will open in the foyer of the Yasnaya Polyana Cultural Center. It will feature clay dishes of the types that were used in Russia in the 18th-19th centuries. There will be 16 items on display.

These objects were all made by the potter of the Applied Handicrafts Department Elena Barabanova and designed in the style of the Yasnaya Polyana ceramics.

“Fire Marks“ Exibition in Krapivna

On October 22, 2016 at 13:00 the Fire Marks exhibition will open at the Krapivna Local History Museum. The exhibition tells about the history of insurance in Tula Region, first of all in the Krapivna District.

What companies worked here in the 19th century and how; what are insurance, an insurance mark, and an insurance policy, and which of the Krapivna residents worked as insurance agents?  Visitors to the exhibition will have access to hundreds of documents and objects from the collections of the Krapivna Museum and of the collectors Dmitry Suetin and Dmitry Korneev. During the opening of the exhibition, there will be a presentation of the brochure Insurance in Krapivna by Vladimir Borzykh, a researcher of the history of Russian insurance.

You are invited to a photo exhibition by Igor Shcherbakov, a photographer from Tula. It will show photographs of medicinal herbs of Tula Region. The opening ceremony will start at 15:00.

This exhibition is a continuation of the Krapivna Museum‘s project The Kingdom of Herbs, which gives our visitors a chance to learn more about medicinal herbs, choose herbs for their own herbal tea or a fragrant sachet, and taste herbal teas. The author of this exhibition will also offer his guests a cup of healthy tea from various herbs growing in Krapivna.

On September 21 at 16:00, you are welcome to the opening of the exhibition The Light That Shines in the Darkness (Leo Tolstoy and Cinema). The exhibition is organized by the Yasnaya Polyana Museum, the State Leo Tolstoy Museum (Moscow), and the State Central Cinema Museum as part of the Year of Russian Cinema.  

Exhibition of Works by the Artist Sergey Sachkov in Krapivna

September 7 - October 11, 2016 
Krapivna Local History Museum 


On September 7 at 16:00 the Children‘s World of Sergey Sachkov exhibition will open at the Krapivna Local History Museum in memory of the artist.

The exhibition will show his illustrations of various editions, including both classic works ofchildren‘s literature and little-known works. Visitors to the exhibition will see the artist‘s illustrations of works by Korney Chukovsky, of Russian folk tales, and of books for children by American authors, and also calendars designed by Sergey Sachkov, which made his work well-recognized by both children and adults.

Sergey Sachkov, known to many people for his landscapes of Krapivna, but primarily for his illustrations of children‘s books, passed away in July.

Illustrations and books were provided for the exhibition by the artist‘s family and the Rodnichok Publisher.

Exhibition of Svetlana Kedrina: “Together Are the Earth and Sky, and I“

This exhibition of items done in the applique technique opens on August 31, 2016 at 16:00. The title of the exhibition repeats the title of one of Svetlana Kedrina’s own poems.

“As long as I can remember myself, I have always longed to do creative work,“ she says. “I used to draw patterns, make dolls from various objects of everyday life, carve on wood, and finally, having reached a mature age, I got into making patchwork panels. I have been preoccupied with it for over thirty years.”
