Volunteer Season 2018

The Museum Volunteer Camp project aimed at the restoration of the authentic tree plantations of Yasnaya Polyana is under way, and we are announcing the dates of volunteer weekends at our estate this year.

Autumn session: September 14-16; September 21-23; September 28-30; October 5-7; October 12-14.

This year, with our volunteers‘ help, we‘ll continue to restore the coniferous forests planted by Leo and Sophia Tolstoy over 100 years ago. 1,200 fir trees will be planted in the Firs near Grumant historic wood.

The Firs near Grumant wood is located on the western border of the estate. It was planted by Sophia Tolstaya. According to the plan dated 1889, the planting of pines and firs took place in 1898 and in the 1900s. From this place, there is a splendid view of the Kalinov Meadow and the village of Grumant. The Kalinov Meadow, as well as the village with such an unusual name, are important places closely related to Leo Tolstoy‘s life and works, and to the history of the Volkonsky-Tolstoy family.

On July 31-August 14, jointly with World4U, Yasnaya Polyana will organize its third international volunteer ecological camp. Based on your applications, a waiting list will be drawn up, on the basis of which we will add people to the foreign participants in the group.
