Tickets to the Tolstoy Weekend Theater Festival Are Now On Sale

On Tuesday, April 25, 2017, the sale of tickets on the festival‘s official web site began. Beginning on Friday, April 28, tickets will also be sold in the ticket-offices of the city of Tula and the Yasnaya Polyana Estate-Museum. Thanks to the widened scope of the festival this year, the organizers will be able to distribute more tickets for free among senior citizens and school and university students. Admission to the discussions and children’s plays will be free, and visitors will only have to register in advance on the festival’s web site.

The Tolstoy Weekend festival is supported by Governor of Tula Region Aleksei Dyumin. On June 9-11, 2017, the country’s leading theaters will present their interpretations of Leo Tolstoy‘s works on four open-air stages at the Yasnaya Polyana Estate. In addition, the festival program includes, for the first time, productions based on other authors’ works that are in harmony with Tolstoy‘s oeuvre.

All in all, about twenty events will take place during three days in several open-air venues, such as plays, story-tellings, and public discussions. The “stage setting“ will be the estate and its environs.

The participants in the festival will incude the K.S. Stanislavsky and V.N. Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Musical Theater, the A.V. Lunacharsky Sevastopol Academic Russian Drama Theater, the V. Mayakovsky Moscow Academic Theater, and the Baltic House Festival Theater (St. Petersburg). Well-known art figures from other countries will also participate in Tolstoy Weekend.

This year the festival will also substantially broaden its children‘s program. Children's plays will be shown by the Moscow Vs. Meyerkhold Center, and the Young Spectators‘ Theater from Nizhny Novgorod.

The Tolstoy Weekend Festival is held in the open air at the Yasnaya Polyana Estate-Museum. The idea for the festival came from Governor of Tula Region Aleksei Dyumin. The first Tolstoy Weekend Festival took place on September 9-11, 2016 and attracted over 3,000 spectators, thus becoming one of the chief cultural events in Tula Region.
