“The 13th season of the Yasnaya Polyana Book Award became quite special for us; in the Year of Literature in Russia, we tripled the prize fund, brought the award to the international level having introduced the new Foreign Literature category, and for the first time invited ordinary readers to participate in the voting. For the opportunity to realise our plans we are grateful to our unfailing partner, Samsung Electronics, which provided invaluable support despite the economic situation,” said Vladimir Tolstoy, Chairperson of the Yasnaya Polyana Book Award jury and Advisor on Culture and Art to the RF President.

“Samsung Electronics has cooperated with leading Russian cultural centers for over two decades, and the Yasnaya Polyana Book Award is a major project of the company. It is a great honour for us to support talented authors whose work reflect Leo Tolstoy‘s moral principles and ideals. Having established the special Readers‘ Choice prize this year, we also managed to take an important step forward in terms of promoting the reading of works following the traditions of classical Russian literature,“ said Sergey Pevnev, Director of the Department of Corporate Relationships at Samsung Electronics CIS headquarters.

The annual Yasnaya Polyana Book Award was established in 2003 by the Leo Tolstoy Estate-Museum and Samsung Electronics. The jury, which includes well known writers, critics and literary historians, choose authors whose works preserve traditions of classical literature and at the same time support current trends in contemporary Russian literature.
