Practical Training of Biology Students of Tula State University

On July 16 – 21, 2014, biology students of Tula State University again had their field practical training at the village of Pokrovskoye, at the premises of a branch of the Yasnaya Polyana Museum there. For a week, the future biotechnologists studied the biological diversity of the Snezhet River valley. During excursions and field exercises, the students mastered the chief methods of research of plant communities, and techniques of collecting and preserving plant specimens. It was also important for the students to get acquainted with the history of the Pokrovskoye Estate and its relation to the lives and works of Leo Tolstoy and Ivan Turgenev. The students visited the place of the dam and water mill and the village of Khitrovo where the estate of the Delvigs, the Tolstoys’ neighbors, used to be located, and the guided tour by our museum’s research assistant Alexander Mulyar added to their impressions of this interesting historical place of Tula Region.
